Blues Boss Maresca Rejects Man City Speculation as '100%' Gossip
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh reports linking him with a return to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man in Manchester, addressed the persistent speculation about his future.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in June 2024, has a contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a possible extension option.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my attention, I have stated many times, is solely on this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was connected to Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, presently placed in fourth position in the Premier League, are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.
Tensions Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's latest comments follow after he referred to a recent two-day spell as his "worst" since arriving at Chelsea.
Those initial words had sparked widespread talk of a potential rift between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.
When asked if he had discussed matters with the club's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we talk about various topics. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The Italian however affirmed he would "absolutely" stay at the club next season and called on the fans to "continue to support the team".
In brighter news, Maresca revealed that sidelined attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back sooner than expected, possibly available for a fixture against Aston Villa later this month.
Perspective: Unresolved Tension
The apparent disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an open wound that still create unease.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter publicly, there has also been no apology forthcoming, creating the disagreement unresolved.
The mood during the manager's press conferences has become notably awkward, leading to concerns it could impact what has up to now been a decent start to the campaign.
Chelsea's on-field situation is strong: they are in the top four in the Premier League, have reached the Carabao Cup last four, and can achieve a favourable Champions League position with good performances in their final matches.
