Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
