Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
