Ten individuals convicted of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of disseminating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A circulating false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens brushed aside any factual proof contradicting her allegations in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The couple married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
